The smoke from the blasts has dimmed the glitter of Jaipur's gems and colours of handicraft that is predominant in every part of the world. With the walled city virtually under siege, estimated losses to the industry in the last two days are about Rs 5,000 crore.

There are about 24 specialized markets in the Walled City that cater to manufacturing and trading in varied sectors.

Everything has come to a standstill post serial blasts, followed by two consecutive days of curfew. The loss to business per day is estimated to be approximately Rs 2,500 crore, said K L Jain, secretary general of the Rajasthan Chamber of Industry & Commerce. Jaipur's contribution accounts to about 65% of the annual export turn over of Rs 15,186.41 crore, he said.

The six main locations in the old city where the blasts took place are of great commercial importance. There are over 200 shops in each lane that are interspersed across the 5 sq km area that caters to approximately five to six lakh people with business interests on an average everyday.

If Tripolia Bazar is famous for bangle shops, the Manak Chowk is famous for its readymade garments, shoes and antiques. The Johri Bazar is a hub for gems and jewellery traders and Chandpol caters to food grain whole sale and retail market. The Hanuman Temple and Sanganeri Gate is generally thronged by devotees and food connoisseurs.
