Their only passion is machines. A love that has seen these three final-year instrumentation and control (IC) engineering students from Nirma University achieved the impossible. Design a computer numeric controlled (CNC) machine, which costs nothing less than Rs 6 lakh on the market, in a fraction of the cost.
Meet Vrunshank Bhat (20), Hitarth Desai (21) and Mihir Ambasan (21) who have designed a CNC machine, which has several high-end industrial applications, for just Rs 6,000 as part of their final-year student project. And they are quite confident that by spending a few more thousands they could well commercialise the machine.
"The machine is very much operational and can do all types of work like drilling, tapping, reaming and boring, but for industrial use we need to touch it a little more and it can be done by spending some Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 more," says Vrushank.
