Lucknow: In a big embarrassment for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on the first anniversary of her government, a cabinet minister's car hit a man in Lucknow and left him to die on the road.
The car was a part of the official fleet of Excise and Public Works Department Minister Naseemddin Siddiqui, who is a close aide of Mayawati.
The car hit 30-year-old Ashwani Tiwari, who was riding a cycle, and then made a quick getaway. Kumar was then taken to the civil hospital by a local resident where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Siddiqui, however, said that it was his driver who took Tiwari to the hospital.
"I dont know, maybe the driver couldn't brake and somehow the accident happened. The driver and his friend took the victim to the civil hospital and admitted him. I was in a meeting and didn't know about it at the time. The driver then took the car and surrendered himself. Whatever the case, it is a very sad turn of events," Siddiqui said.
