NEW DELHI: The third and final phase of Panchayat polls in seven districts of West Bengal began on a violent note with seven people being killed in poll related violence.

Police said at least thirteen others were injured, as supporters of ruling Left parties fought pitched battles with those of Opposition parties.

Five deaths were reported from the worst-affected Murshidabad district.

Trouble began at around 6 am when voters were standing in queue at a booth in Majherdeher village at Raninagar near the Indo-Bangla borer before the polling was to begin at 7 am, District Magistrate Subir Bhadra said.
