Punjab govt and ban doctors seeing medical reps during the consultation hours. This is rampant in Tamil Nadu. Docs prescribe all costly medicines advised by the medical reps. I found on several occasions that the medicines prescribed by docs are only available from the shops in the same vicinity, not otherwise. I believe that there must be a strong nexus between the docs -medical cos and medical stores. And we poor patients are at the receiving end.
