Sixth Pay Commission

The 6th Pay Commission has recommended a hefty increase in salaries of over four million to central Government employees, a move that would cost the exchequer Rs 12,561 crore in 2008-09. An additional burden on India’s economy after the much-publicised sops announced by the government to waive off farmers’ loans in the Union Budget running into hundreds of crores, will this move help Congress retain power in the next general elections?
