Airport scanners can see
Underneath clothes
Exposing sex organs,
Colostomy bags and breast size.
Shut inside glass booths,
Three dimensional images will be
Made, of bodies beneath
Passengers’ clothes.
Millimeter waves will detect
Metal, plastic, ceramic,
Chemicals and explosives
Hidden in the body.
Screeners will be looking at
These images in a separate room.
The consolation is that
Passengers’ faces will be blurred.
The days of pat-down
Security checks are over.
Passengers and rights activists
Are naturally worried.
They object to highly personal
Details of the body
Like masectomies, colostomy appliances,
Penile implants, catheter tubes,
Size of breast or genitals
Being displayed at all.
Though assurances are being given
That images will not be printed
Stored or transmitted
Or misused and personal identity
Will not be disclosed who can
Guarantee all this in today’s e-world?
Days of privacy are over.
Era of ‘indecent exposures’ is here.
Is this our response to terrorism?
Are we bidding goodbye to
Human dignity and civilization,
By agreeing to strip ourselves
To complete nakedness,
And reverting to the age of 'naked apes'?
Is there no other way to fight terrorism?
Explore further, we must.
Are terrorists winning
Not only physically but mentally
And emotionally as well?
Terrorism has started digging
The grave of civilization.
This must be resisted,
Not by panic reaction
But more enlightened and bold steps.
